AI.com, which is probably the most coveted and sought-after domain name, has been put up for sale, according to a DN Journal article. While the .COM domain may have lost some of its momentum lately, it remains far ahead of competition in terms of its appeal. Meanwhile, an AI boom seems to have become a planetary phenomenon, which makes AI.com the most prized and desired asset in the domain world.
However, it is expected to be priced accordingly with the seller seeking $100 million for the domain name. Should this happen, the AI.com sale will become the first nine-figure domain transaction. So far, the industry record stands at eight figures and belongs to the $30 million sale of voice.com. Larry Fischer will act as a broker in this deal. A 20-year industry veteran, he has accompanied many deals worth millions of dollars. In his view, a $100 million figure is quite a proper price for a domain name of this kind. The person or company who own the AI.com domain can aspire to a unique and exclusive status, which is something that can be worth paying for, Fisher pointed out.
There is scarce information as for the domain’s current owner. He is said to have bought it from Future Media Architects back in 2021 for an undisclosed amount of money. It was also this very owner who said in a rare interview that he bought the domain not because he expected AI to become so popular or because he was into the domain business, but simply because AI coincides with his initials. Nobody knows whether this is true, since the seller has refused to disclose his name.
