EURid, the .eu registry, has released its report for the fourth quarter of 2024, mentioning several important events it held over the reporting period. For example, Cybersecurity Month took place in October 2024, during which EURid staff members proactively contributed to awareness and educational projects to promote the adoption of DNSSEC and educate users on best practices to stay safe from cyberattacks, fraud and scams.
In addition, the European Parliament held its third .eu Day. According to Online Domain, this campaign consisted of MEPs and registry representatives discussing several EU regulations for ensuring the domain zone’s stable operation, as well as internet governance in today’s dynamic geopolitical landscape. They also talked about the need to promote youth participation in digital policy.
At an operational level, the .eu domain had 3.741,646 registrations as of the end of 2024, with an increase of 71,220 compared to the third quarter. The renewal rate remained steady at 81 percent, although it failed to match the same indicator for the preceding quarter when it reached 84 percent. There were 38.266 Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) registrations under .eu.
Germany, the Netherlands, and France retained their leadership in terms of .eu registrations with 958,556, 452,467 and 306, 517 domains respectively. However, it has to be noted that the number of registrations in the .eu domain zone declined in the fourth quarter, while Italy and Poland, which ranked fourth and fifth in the top 10 list of countries in terms of .eu registrations, enjoyed positive momentum.
