Google corporation has announced the upcoming launch of a new generic top-level domain, .CHANNEL. While the domain was added to the DNS root zone back in September 2014, it is well-known in the domain industry that Google typically takes approximately 10 years to launch its domains. The .CHANNEL domain is being marketed by the company as a platform for entrepreneurs and creatives to generate income. The domain name invites users to create websites and sell goods and services under this domain.
The early access period for the .CHANNEL domain will begin on February 4, allowing anyone to register names at premium prices. This period follows a Dutch auction model, where registration costs decrease daily throughout the week. According to Domain Name Wire, the registrar company 101domain has reported that on the first day of early access, registration will cost around $12,000, dropping to $3,599 on the second day, and reaching $149 on the seventh and final day.
Following this, the general registration period will open on February 11. The annual registration fee for a name in the new .CHANNEL domain, along with its renewal, is expected to range between $20 and $30.
