The atom.com domain platform has polled 2,000 users in the United States to gauge their awareness of and trust for current domains. The top-level .COM domain is the most popular and trustworthy option. The level of the knowledge depends on specific careers. For example, 89 percent of technological companies’ employees are familiar with the .AI country-code domain, and 77 percent know about .IO, the ccTLD of British Territories in the Indian Ocean. At the same time, 51 percent of the pollees, regardless of their professional affiliation, recognize Colombia’s ccTLD, .CO; this is probably because it sounds similar to .COM.
Speaking of trust, 77 percent of the respondents are inclined to trust domain names that completely coincide with the names of well-known brands, according to The Domains. However, the very same 77 percent say their trust will drop sharply if it turns out that similar domain names are used in different domain zones and belong to different brands. The presence of additional words (apart from the brand name) and a hyphen does not facilitate trust either.
