The number of registrations in Indonesia's .ID domain surpasses 1 million

The PANDI registry, which oversees Indonesia's .ID national domain, has announced that registrations in the .ID domain zone have surpassed the 1,000,000 mark. According to Domain Incite, referencing zone file data, this milestone was reached on November 14. Currently, there are 1,094,507 names registered in the .ID domain. With this achievement, Indonesia's national domain joins the ranks of “millionaire domains,” a group that now includes over 40 members.

Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country after India, China, and the United States, boasts an estimated population of 277 million. Given these numbers, reaching a million registered names in the national .ID domain is unsurprising. However, it is worth noting that nearly a third of Indonesia's population still lacks access to the global internet.

Indonesia's national .ID domain is experiencing rapid growth, adding over 100,000 registrations in the past year alone. This increase is particularly noteworthy given that many generic top-level domains have recently seen a decline in registrations. Historically, the .ID domain has operated with a three-level structure, offering more than a dozen third-level options such as .co.id, .net.id, and .or.id. While second-level domain registration is also available, the most popular choice remains .my.id, which accounts for over a third of all registrations in the .ID domain.
