On October 1, the registry of Anguilla’s ccTLD, .AI, released its regularly updated statistics for the domain zone. The self-governing British overseas territory in the Caribbean continues to reap tangible benefits from the fact that its ccTLD’s name coincides with the abbreviation of “artificial intelligence.” Interest in artificial intelligence is immense, and the number of registrations in .AI is steadily growing, generating significant income for the treasury of Anguilla.
According to Domain Name Wire, the number of registrations in .AI has exceeded half a million for the first time, reaching 533,068 as of October 1, compared to just 48,272 registered names in the national domain of Anguilla six years ago. Since then, the number of registrations has been growing consistently, and the growth has accelerated in the last two years. Just last June, the number of registrations stood at 248,609. Thus, in just over a year, Anguilla’s ccTLD has more than doubled, growing over tenfold compared to July 2018.
