The Domain Incite reported that as of August 29, 1,187,324 names were registered in the Turkish national domain .TR. Thus, in just one day, on August 28, the domain zone was replenished with almost 91,000 registrations. The growth is fantastic: for comparison, we can say that the most popular generic top-level domain .COM added more than four times fewer new registrations on the same day.
This result was one of the consequences of the liberalization of the registration rules in the national domain of Turkey. The changes were initiated by the state-run registry Trabis, which in 2022 replaced the previous registry of the .TR domain - Nic.tr. One of the innovations was the decision to follow the path of the national domains of Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand - and open the possibility of registering second-level names. Registrants of third-level names of the .com.tr, .org,tr and .info.tr types received the corresponding second-level names at their disposal - and this happened on August 28.
From September 4, second-level names in the national domain of Turkey will be available for registration to everyone. It is worth noting that during the time of managing the .TR domain zone, the Trabis has already managed to almost double the number of registrations in it.
