The registry of the extremely popular Anguilla national domain .AI these days is holding its next monthly auction of domain names whose registration was not renewed in a timely manner by the previous owners. The top bidder at the moment is the domain name Stack.ai, which has been up for bids more than 40 times, with the current bid amounting to $9,200.
But that’s not what’s interesting in this case. The TLD Investors, citing data from NameBio, reports absolutely incredible information about this domain. At the end of April last year, it was purchased on the Afternic marketplace for a more than respectable $258,888. Then, judging by materials from Archive.org, the new owner put it up for sale - already on the DAN and by $90,000 more expensive - for $348,888. What happened next is impossible to understand. But it is obvious that no buyer was found for this amount, and the registrant of the domain name managed, for some reason, not to renew its registration.
How it was possible to allow such a development of events, having paid more than a quarter of a million dollars for the domain, seems a mystery. But the fact remains that the registration of Stack.ai was not renewed, and now it is up for auction. Bidding will continue until Monday, June 3.
