Andorra Telecom, the registry of the Andorran national domain .AD, has announced a major liberalization of the rules for registering names in the domain zone. Previously, only citizens of the country or companies registered in it had the right to register, and this required a personal application to government authorities. Now the registry is moving to the model used in the domain business.
According to the Domain Incite, anyone will be able to register a name in the Andorran national domain starting from October of this year. The registration fee will be €15, which is equivalent to $16 US. Andorra is a tiny country in the center of Europe with a population of less than 100,000 people, but its national domain may be of interest to users in all English-speaking countries. Therefore, the domain looks very promising both directly for advertisers and for creating so-called domain hacks - domain names, the parts of which to the left and right of the dot form a meaningful word.
By the way, you can recall that .ADS was delegated to Google at the first stage of the new domain program. However, Google has not yet taken any steps to launch this domain zone, which only increases business interest in the Andorran national domain.
General availability of registration will be preceded by a pre-registration period that will open for .AD on May 22 and will combine features of the priority registration periods for copyright holders and premium registrations at increased prices.
