The Domain Name Wire reported that the number of registrations in Anguilla's country code .AI domain was 425,060 as of last weekend. Anguilla is a British overseas territory in the eastern Caribbean, consisting of several islands with a population of about 15,000 people. Back in the summer of 2018, there were just over 48,000 registered names in the .AI domain.
But then a sharp rise began, caused by growing interest in Artificial Intelligence technologies: the abbreviation for the English phrase AI with the name of the domain zone. In 2020, Open AI released GPT-3, the most advanced large language model to date. And Anguilla's country code ended the year with 85,596 registrations.
Since then, the growth rate of the .AI domain zone has been steadily increasing. In the summer of 2022, 143,737 domain names were registered in the domain, and a year later - already 248,609. In less than the last four months, the number of registrations in the domain zone increased by 70 thousand, and over the past year it has tripled.
