Microsoft has confirmed its intention to move all of its cloud apps off a multitude of .com domains and consolidate them all under .microsoft, its dot-brand gTLD. This decision was first announced back in April last year, and last week the company reminded app developers about it.
Microsoft currently uses domains such as outlook.office.com, teams.microsoft.com and microsoft365.com. But the corporation believes that the transition to using its own dot-brand domain will significantly benefit both end users and admins. The launch of teams.cloud.microsoft is scheduled for this June. Initially after the launch, the company will use the old and new domains simultaneously to prevent disruptions in its developer ecosystem.
In addition, Microsoft will not completely abandon its domain names in .COM, planning to use them for non-product purposes such as marketing, technical support, and e-commerce. Domain Incite resource, reporting this news, notes that cloud.microsoft is now one of the most actively used dot-brand domains. According to Majestic, it is one of the top 20 most visited domains in this category, and the upcoming transition will certainly promote it in this ranking.
