The UK ccTLD registry Nominet Became the Temporary Operator of the .DESI

As reported a few days ago, ICANN has officially included the .DESI in its Emergency Back-End Registry Operator (EBERO) program. Previously, the domain was managed by the Desi Networks registry, registered in Maryland (USA), but back in June of this year it admitted its insolvency and petitioned ICANN to terminate the contract. The Domain Incite resource reports that the search for a temporary operator has already been completed: it has become the non-profit organization Nominet, which is the registry of the UK country code domain .UK.

Probably, especially vigilant citizens may see in this event not entirely politically correct allusions: the fact is that the term desi is customary to designate natives of India and neighboring countries living abroad, as well as objects and phenomena of their culture, and India, as is known, has been around for almost 300 years remained a British colony. However, in any case, it must be admitted that ICANN did not have a very wide choice: very strict requirements are imposed on EBERO operators, and at the moment, in addition to Nominet, only two more organizations are accredited in this capacity - the China national domain registry CNNIC and the national domain registry Canadian CIRA domain.

Nominet will remain the temporary operator of the .DESI domain zone until a registry is found willing to take over the domain permanently. But you may have to wait quite a long time for this event: the domain does not have the best reputation. In almost 10 years of its existence, it has not received even 2,000 registrations, in addition, all the few sites on domains in the .DESI zone, indexed by the Google search engine, are sites of a pornographic nature.
