The .COM registry and major tech company Verisign have taken another step forward in collaboration with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US. Verisign has developed and donated unique software to NCMEC to crack down on websites hosting content related to the sexual exploitation of minors.
According to the NCMEC blog, the new software creates databases of domain names that are used for websites of this kind. In this case, the system automatically determines the hosting provider of the resource, as well as the registrar and registry of the domain name. This will significantly speed up the process of contacting them to remove such content and reduce the chances of its further distribution. " As the nation’s leading child protection organization, we’re thrilled to have Verisign expand its role in supporting our mission,” said Michelle DeLaune, NCMEC president and CEO.
