PDN.com auctioned for $143,000

The PDN.com domain name has been sold through the DropCatch auction for $143,000. According to Domain Name Wire, the previous owner, Paula Deen Ventures, purchased it in 2014 at Sedo for $27,900. The company manages the projects of Paula Deen, a celebrity chef and TV host. Deen owns a famous restaurant, hosts several culinary shows on the Food Network and has written a series of cookbooks.

Paula Deen’s official website is hosted by PaulaDeen.com, and the PDN.com domain was used as a forwarder to Deen’s website. One can hardly understand how a business managing company ended up forgetting to renew the registration of the three-letter .com domain. The value of such assets must be obvious even to those outside the domain business, not to mention that the purchase of the domain and the subsequent renewals cost a big sum, which has been lost. However, some analysts think that the company might try to recover the domain by filing a UDRP complaint. Whether this effort will succeed is unclear: the letter combination PDN could be the abbreviation for practically anything. If the new registrant does not directly affect Paula Deen’s business interests, they have a good chance of keeping the domain.
