The CENTR Report for the Q4 of Last Year Has Been Published

The Association of European Country Code Top-Level Domain Name Registries (CENTR) has summed up the results of the Q4 of 2022 and the year as a whole. According to the Online Domain, referring to the CENTR report, the demand for domain names in European national domain zones, after a sharp rise during the pandemic, returned to the values of 2018-2019. And the median growth rate of these domains was 1.4% - the lowest rate in the last 10 years.

Nevertheless, the situation in the European national domains should be characterized as favorable. The average renewal rate remained at an impressive 84.3%. The share of national domains in the European domain market is estimated at 57%, while .COM accounts for 32%. Also, domain names in national domains of European countries are used much more actively: 46% of them are associated with active websites. For domain names in other domain zones, this figure in European countries is only 17%.

The level of use of the DNSSEC remains rather low in European ccTLDs. In most domain zones it does not exceed 10%. The Report also notes that during 2022, the cost of annual domain name registration in both national European domains and the .COM in Europe increased by 5%. At the end of the year, the median registration cost for European ccTLDs was €10.4 and for .COM was €12.7. In addition, it is interesting to know that on average there are 15 registered domain names per 100 residents of European countries - both in national domain zones and in other generic top-level domains.
