.ZIP Begins to Justify Experts' Fears

In early May, Google opened registrations for its 8 new gTLDs, including the .ZIP. Domain business specialists and cybersecurity experts expressed concern that this domain zone could attract the attention of intruders due to the coincidence with the popular archived file format. Browsers and instant messengers can treat the names of the corresponding files as hyperlinks and redirect users to web pages that can be easily used for various illegal activities.

And apparently, these fears are beginning to be justified. The Domain Gang reports that the National Arbitration Forum has considered a complaint filed by the largest electronic payment system PayPal against the PayPal.zip. Its registrant turned out to be a resident of China with the curious name of Super Wong. He registered the domain name already on May 10th. Well, he obviously was not going to use it, since he immediately put it up for sale. But it is quite clear that the legitimate use of this domain name is possible only by PayPal itself.

Arbitrator Nicholas J. T. Smith did not take long to reach a verdict, especially since the registrant himself during the proceedings apologized to PayPal representatives, assured that he had no ill intent towards the company and expressed his readiness to transfer the right to manage the domain name to it Paypal.zip. This transfer was fixed by the decision of the National Arbitration Forum.
