RIPE 86 Conference Took Place In Rotterdam

The RIPE 86 was held in Rotterdam (Netherlands) from May 22 to 26. RIPE is one of the five global Internet registries, the organization distributes IP addresses and ASNs (Réseaux IP Européens) in Russia, Europe and the Middle East. The conference was attended by representatives of network operators, Internet providers and all organizations interested in the development of the global network from many countries of the world. The meeting gathered a record number of participants: 863 people attended in person, 216 more joined the events RIPE 86 online.

For five days, the conference participants discussed the widest range of issues of interest to both specialists and the general public. For example, Etienne Khan from the University of Twente (Netherlands) shared the secrets of using VPN services to overcome geo-blocks and access streaming content that varies greatly from country to country. Benno Overeinder (NLnet Labs), Bastiaan Goslings and Robert Carolina (RIPE NCC) talked about the prospects for the adoption of legislation by the European Union, including the use of open source software, and the legal consequences that the adoption of such laws can involve for software developers. Natalia Filina, representing the ICANN At-Large Community in Europe (At-Large, ICANN - EURALO), pointed out the need for closer cooperation between the RIPE NCC and EURALO.

The conference also raised the problems of using DNSSEC, the development of the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, improving the reliability and security of the DNS system, and many other relevant topics.
