Demand for Names in European ccTLDs Continues to Grow

The report of the Council of European National Top-Level Registries (CENTR) has published a report for the Q3 of 2022 on its website. According to the document, as of September 30, 2022, the volume of the European domain market amounted to 115 million domain names. 58% are accounted for by ccTLDs, 31% - by the .COM domain, and 11% is the share of all other domain zones.

The median growth of ccTLDs in European countries was 2% in Q3, slightly declining compared to previous figures. On the other hand, the median renewal rate rose to 84.7%. On average, there are 1.2 new registrations per 1 name removed from European national domain zones. This suggests that the demand for European domains not only remains stable, but continues to grow.

To be honest, the prices for registration are also rising. In the Q3 of 2022, the median price of an annual registration with registrar companies was €10.2 (including taxes) - against €8.6 twelve months earlier. If we talk about the use of domains, then 26% of registered names in European national domain zones are parked, another 28% do not contain content or provide information about an error when requested. The remaining 46% are for sites with different content. It is also worth noting that 69% of these sites have SSL certificates and use a secure https connection.
