Elon Musk Helps Grow New Domain .SOCIAL

Identity Digital Registry (formerly Donuts) announced the rapid progress of the .SOCIAL it manages. By the end of November, this new gTLD broke into the top ten Identity Digital domain zones with the largest number of new registrations. And in the US and Canada, it completely came out on this indicator in second place, second only to the .INFO domain. No less impressive is another indicator: in the first two weeks of November, the number of new registrations in the .SOCIAL domain increased by 435% at once compared to the same period of the previous month.

The Head of Identity Digital Akram Atallah spoke about this very diplomatically and streamlined. “Volatility in social platforms that people rely on leads users to take action to own their digital identity and content, which often starts with finding a domain name,” he said. The Domain Incite quite clearly and convincingly deciphers the meaning of this quote. This fall has been a worrying time for Twitter users. Elon Musk, having barely purchased the service, managed to mark himself with a series of, to put it mildly, dubious decisions: for example, he announced a massive reduction in employees and introduced the possibility of obtaining verified accounts for a fee (which provoked many fraudulent campaigns).

All this forced many users to look for an alternative to Twitter. And Mastodon, a decentralized open source platform, turned out to be such an alternative. The project site operates on the Mastodon.social domain, and thus Elon Musk unwittingly advertised the .SOCIAL with his actions. However, in fairness, it must be said that this domain is still far from real global popularity: at the moment, the number of registrations in it is only about 35,000.
