Tesla Registers Some “Watchdog” Domain Names

Domain Name Wire reported that Tesla registered seven domain names containing the word “watchdog” earlier this week. These domains are teslamotorswatchdog.com, teslamotorswatchdog.net, teslawatchdog.net, tslawatchdog.com, tslawatchdog.net, tzlawatchdog.com and tzlawatchdog.net. It can be assumed that Elon Musk's company is going to launch a new product with security functions on the market. The guess is quite right to exist, since Tesla has developments in this area: for example, in its cars there is a Sentry Mode function that allows you to turn on cameras to record activity around the car.

But another explanation is also possible. The word watchdog is often used to refer to individuals and organizations that exercise tight, impartial control and have the right to criticize and punish mistakes. And Tesla has been a regular target of criticism lately due to incidents with its cars. And, to put it mildly, the strange actions of its head, Elon Musk, in relation to the recently acquired Twitter service, also do not add popularity to the company. And it's entirely possible that watchdog domain name registrations are a defensive measure for the sole purpose of preventing critics from registering domains that are so appropriate for their purposes. By the way, it is worth noting that the TeslaWatchdog.com domain is already registered, and not by Tesla. However, the domain is not used for any website, and is not active. There is currently no information on whether Tesla intends to file a complaint and try to gain control of this domain.
