ICANN 75 Prep Week discusses Universal Acceptance

The Universal Acceptance Steering Group held a session, Community Update on Universal Acceptance (UA),during ICANN 75 Prep Week.All UASG working groups presented their annual results.

According to Chair of the UASG Communications Working Group Anil Kumar Jain, all interested parties must be involved for Universal Acceptance to be successful.

ICANN recently presented its Operating Plan for the 2023 financial year. The plan describes the initiatives supporting the corporation’s strategic goals. Assisting the Universal Acceptance of domain names and email addresses is among the initiatives described.

On September 7, ICANN President Goran Marby also shared objectives for the next financial year. One of the eight objectives on the list is raising awareness of Universal Acceptance outside the ICANN community and building an understanding of the links between UA, internationalized domain names and the next stages of Universal Acceptance.

Discussed at all ICANN conferences, UA issues are listed as one of the five strategic areas of work for the corporation in 2021-2025.

ICANN 75 will take place on September 17-22 in a hybrid format, online and offline in Kuala Lumpur. Maria Kolesnikova, Chief Analyst of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and Chair of the Universal Acceptance Local Initiative in the CIS and Eastern Europe, will address the session Driving Local Change for Universal Acceptance (UA) Adoption Globally on September 20. The local initiative includes Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Latvia, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine.

Maria will speak about the current challenges and problems related to internationalized domain names and email addresses. She will also present the local initiative’s topical areas of work.
