Eth.link up for auction

According to The Domains, Dynadot is holding an auction for the domain name Eth.link. It has already experienced an extreme struggle, which could be the end of an equally intense saga. The name was previously used for the website of the decentralized autonomous organization ENS DAO, which oversees the Ethereum platform's blockchain domain system. One of the founding members of the ENS DAO group, Virgil Griffith, registered the domain. But he was detained by the FBI in 2019 and is now in jail after being found guilty of money laundering and aiding the North Korean government in utilizing the cryptocurrency Ethereum to evade economic restrictions.

As a result, the registrant is unable to renew the domain name registration. According to a statement on the END DAO website, GoDaddy, the domain registrar, first authorized a renewal on Griffith's behalf but later reversed that decision for an undisclosed reason. GoDaddy declined to respond to this assertion. They only sent a message stating that the owner of the domain name ETH.LINK was "unavailable". Due to this, the domain registration expired on July 26. It is currently going through the process of being deleted, and will be open for re-registration around September 5.

Although it is still unclear exactly how Dynadot was able to guarantee the domain, it appears to have happened because the auction is currently in full swing. The rate has already surpassed six thousand euros, and there is little question that it will continue to have room to increase dramatically before the auction's scheduled finish date of September 2.
