Nominet sold its CyGlass for a dollar

Nominet, which manages the UK ccTLD .UK, has shown determination to focus on its core business. Previously, the registry proclaimed a diversification course, but actions in this direction turned out to be too costly and not very successful. In many ways, this was the reason for the dissatisfaction of the members of the Nominet, which eventually resulted in the convening of an emergency general meeting, which sent the registry management into full resignation last spring.

It is now up to the new Nominet management to "reap the fruits" of the unsuccessful previous course. According to the Domain Incite, recently the head of the registry, Andrew Green, announced the sale of CyGlass, which was previously part of Nominet. The company is engaged in providing cyber security. It is sold to its employees for the symbolic sum of $1. At the same time, its acquisition at one time cost the registry 6.3 million dollars. Another 16 million were subsequent investments in its activities. The total cost of CyGlass is estimated by Andrew Green at $23.5 million.

Green has found the way to refrain from direct reproaches against his predecessors. He diplomatically noted that customers showed interest in CyGlass services, however, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected both the company's work and customer preferences, which led to unacceptably low regular annual revenues for investors, making further support of the CyGlass business as part of Nominet meaningless.
