ICANN and EURid have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has announced a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Registry for Internet Domains (EURid), the registry that manages the .eu top-level domain (TLD). The MoU, signed on 20 June 2022, is an effort between the two organizations to strengthen their collaboration in supporting Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) and promoting the Universal Acceptance (UA) of all domain names and email addresses.

ICANN President Göran Marby called these areas the priorities of the corporation and emphasized that cooperation with EURid is critical in order to make the Internet more accessible - not only in Europe, but throughout the world. The head of EURid, Peter Janssen, for his part, noted that the registry, which manages, among other things, the internationalized domains .eu (Cyrillic) and .ευ (Greek), is well aware that the ability to use your native language on the global network is of paramount importance . He expressed his confidence that further strengthening of cooperation with ICANN will be an important step towards Universal Acceptance.

ICANN and EURid intend to work together on research and technology projects. In addition, they aim to create educational resources and programs to further promote internationalized domains and the principles of Universal Acceptance.
