The success of the NFT Moonbirds collection has caused a spike of malicious domain registrations

Another hit on the non-fungible token (NFT) market was the Moonbirds collection. These are 10,000 avatars depicting owls, made in a "nostalgic style of 8-bit graphics." Within days of the release of the collection, the value of the tokens increased to 18.45 units of Ethereum ($56,800) and total secondary sales approached $300 million.

The official website of the project operates on the Moonbirds.xyz domain. In addition, there is information that the project has also purchased the Moonbirds.com domain. However, the attackers also became interested in the success of Moonbirds, who hastened to register the corresponding names in various domain zones. According to the Domain Gang, to date, the Moonbirds name has already been found in 45 generic top-level domains - from Moonbirds.app and Moonbirds.art to Moonbirds.work and Moonbirds.world. Some of these domain names are for sale, others are used for phishing websites. Their start pages exactly repeat the official website of the project, however, the number of the cryptocurrency wallet, of course, has been changed. And when trying to purchase tokens on such sites, the buyer only transfers his money to scammers in vain. NFT fans should exercise caution. It should also be taken into account that links to phishing websites are already spread by some hacked Twitter accounts.
