The Sedo marketplace and InterNetX company published a report for last year

Domain marketplace Sedo and German hosting and domain company InterNetX have published Global Domain Report. Despite the "globality" of the name, it monitors the trends of the global domain market primarily through the prism of deals on Sedo. The report consists of about 70 pages, and even briefly retelling it in one note, of course, is impossible, but the Domain Name Wire resource highlights several noteworthy trends.

The first one is a steady growth in the number of transactions concluded without trading, according to the buy now model. If in 2011 this category accounted for only 30% of all transactions concluded on Sedo, then in 2021 their share has grown to 72%. In most cases, we are talking about not the most expensive purchases - a few hundred or thousands of dollars. However, there were some notable deals last year on Sedo's by now model, including Flow.me for $58,925, Homesome.com for $59,999, and Safemoon.com for $67,554.

If we talk about national domains, then it is worth remembering that Sedo is a German marketplace. And a significant part of its clients are legal entities and individuals from Germany. In 60% of cases, they purchase names in the national domain of their country .DE. By the way, representatives of Germany occupy only the second place in the list of buyers of Sedo, on the first - buyers from the USA. It is also curious that the deal with a name in one of the national domains was the largest for Sedo last year. The platform itself and the parties to the transaction are bound by a non-disclosure agreement, so neither the domain name nor the amount paid for it is disclosed. But this amount of money is definitely higher than $ 2 million - exactly so much was paid for the most expensive purchase on Sedo last year, information about this is on open access (the Angel.com domain became this purchase).

As for new domain zones, they are rapidly increasing their presence on Sedo. If in 2020, there were about 125 new domain names deals on this marketplace, then in 2021 this number increased to 227. .XYZ became the leader in total transactions for new generic domains on Sedo, followed by .ONLINE, .APP and .SHOP.
