French ccTLD grew 5.8% over the past year

The non-profit organization Afnic, which is the registry of the French ccTLD .FR, has published its report for 2021. The document states that although the growth dynamics last year decreased slightly compared to 2020, the French national domain zone still shows very good results, according to the Online Domain resource.

Over the past year, 776,514 new domain names were registered in the national domain of France. This is lower than in 2020, when the record result for the entire existence of the .FR domain was reached - 793,441 new registrations. However, compared to 2019, the growth is nevertheless very noticeable - as much as 12%. As of December 31, 2021, there were 3,882,448 names registered in the French national domain. Growth compared to the previous year was 5.8%. For comparison, we can say that in 2020 the growth rate was 7.0%, and in 2019 - 3.7%.

The authors of the report draw attention to the fact that the growth rate of the French national domain zone last year outpaced the corresponding indicators of the French and global domain markets (3.6% and 0.7% respectively), as well as the pan-European national domain .EU (2.9%). The .FR domain also increased its share in the country's domain market, bringing it to 38.75%. A year earlier, this figure was 38.0%.
