On January 25, Google announced early access to the new gTLD .DAY. At this stage, registrants have the opportunity to register premium domains at higher prices. During the week, domain prices will drop daily, ending at about $150 for annual registration. At the same time, regular registrations will be available at $10-15 starting February 1, according to Domain Name Wire.
The domain was delegated to Google back in August 2014, and is finally being launched after almost seven and a half years. At the same time, many domain market experts express doubts that Google has chosen a successful concept for developing the domain. The domain is intended to draw attention to dates that are important for the registrant for one reason or another. The World Wildlife Fund, for example, has already registered the wildlife.day domain in order to celebrate Wildlife Day (March 3) more widely. And the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chose MLK.day in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day (celebrated in the United States every year on the third Monday of January). Surely many others will follow suit. Still, analysts believe that the number of registrations in the new .DAY generic top-level domain is unlikely to be significant.
