The past weekend was quite unpleasant for the clients of the eNom domain registrar and hosting provider. The company, an affiliate of one of the world’s largest registrars, Tucows, conducted a planned data center migration on Saturday. It was announced in early December, and clients had been warned several times about possible inconveniences. The work was supposed to be completed within 12 hours. But something went badly wrong.
On weekends, the company’s social media pages were full of angry comments from clients complaining about the downtime of their websites and lost access to email. Many claimed they had suffered financial losses due to the incident. According to Domain Incite, the migration took over two days. At first eNom spoke about hundreds of affected domains, but according to Tucows, the true number was around 350,000 domains. The company apologized for the failure and assured its clients that it was committed to regaining their trust.
