Bahrain to relaunch its national domains

Authorities in Bahrain have decided to relaunch the country’s national domain .BH, and the internationalized version البحرين. The country’sTelecommunications Regulatory Authority manages domains, but the total number of registrations in .BH is not known, according to Domain Incite. The current registration process is somewhat complicated: registrants must confirm the registration of businesses in Bahrain, and they also need a valid local telephone number.

The regulator indicates that the registration process will be simplified and automated to the greatest possible extent, “cutting the time of registration from days to minutes.” Domain names will be available to clients from Bahrain and to registrants from other countries. However, no details are available, and it is also unclear what registrar companies will be able to work with .BH names. The company CentralNic will become the main technical operator of domain zones. The relaunch is to commence in the fourth quarter of 2021, and it will begin with a priority registration period for trademark owners.
