Games.ru. has changed hands. Kommersant was the first to announce the news regarding registration data. The new domain registrant in the Whois record is Sbergames LLC. It is part of Sberentertainment, a subsidiary of Sber.
Games.ru was registered on January 18, 1997. Previously, the domain housed a website dedicated to free online games. The site included a popular forum, where games were discussed, and a gaming industry news section. It is assumed that now a portal of paid subscriptions for games and related services developed by Sber and its partner companies will be launched on the domain. The intention of Sber to occupy this niche became known back in the spring, when the announcement was made about the creation of Sber Games.
The exact sum of the transaction is still unknown, but market experts believe that such a valuable domain name could hardly have been acquired for less than $1 million. They also believe that this is the largest transaction in the Russian ccTLD .RU in recent years.
