Hackers attack EPIK

An unknown hacker group announced a successful attack on the registrar Epik, which also provides web hosting services. The incident was reported by Domain Name Wire. Epik has a bad reputation for providing shelter to domains and sites that other companies refuse to support because of inappropriate content. Epik's services are used by far-right and extremist political groups, media outlets that disseminate "evidence" of global conspiracy theories, and so on.

The latest hack is connected with the activities of a Texas group, whose website allowed people to share information about women who had an abortion in order to punish them for their ungodly act. After GoDaddy refused to host the site, it found refuge with Epik. However, under pressure from the public, even this company had to ask the site owners to remove the content.

It was Epik's favor toward these kinds of sites that provoked the attack. According to the hackers, “after years of bolstering the worst trash the Internet has to offer, this is, truly, the Epik moment we’ve all been waiting for.” The hackers claim that they got the personal data of domain registrants, as well as the transaction history and Whois records of domain names. The company initially denied the hack, but then its customers received an email signed by Epik CEO Rob Monster. The email does not directly confirm or refute the information about the attack, but Monster, in high-flown language, says, for example: "I believe that what the enemy intends for evil, God invariably transforms into good." The phrase looks like indirect confirmation of the hack. We can probably expect major revelations to come, as many influential people in US politics and business have secretly supported extremist resources and groups.
