EURid, which runs the European Union’s ccTLD .EU, has released its Q2 progress report. As of June 30, 2021, .EU had 3,731,298 domain name registrations, with 1.26% growth recorded since the beginning of the year. This is certainly good news, as .EU showed a lingering decline in the past. As is known, Brexit officially concluded at the end of last year, and since January 1, all domains of British registrants have been blocked.
According to the EURid report, .EU has seen 212,228 new domain name registrations. Portugal was the driving force, showing a surge in growth at 61.5%. The report also notes a very high registration renewal rate of 82.88% on average. Among other important events in the second quarter were celebrations of the fifth anniversary of the internationalized Cyrillic .EЮ domain, which took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, as well as the registry’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with Europol and the No More Ransom project as part of the fight against the illegal use of domain names.
