International Olympic Committee gets IOC.com domain

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) now has the right to manage the IOC.com domain name. In 2020, the relevant complaint was submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP).

However, any company with an IOC acronym or even a person with the initials IOC could make a formal claim to the domain. Consequently, the IOC would have a hard time proving that the IOC.com domain had been registered and used for illegal purposes. Analysts waited eagerly for the complaint review, but it never happened. According to an update on the WIPO UDRP case website, the UDRP was terminated, Domain Investing reports. In virtually all cases, this means that the complainant and the respondent agreed to a voluntary settlement. Most likely, the parties approved a sum that suits the previous registrant and the IOC, now listed as the domain name’s registrant by the updated Whois record.
