The Donuts registry has announced another expansion of its domain portfolio. The company has acquired four new finance-related gTLDs: .MARKETS, .FOREX, .BROKER and .TRADING. All of them were delegated to Boston Ivy which planned to attract a large circle of financial experts but failed to do so.
Overall, there are fewer than 4,000 registered domain names in .MARKETS, .FOREX, .BROKER and .TRADING. Earlier, Boston Ivy sold another “financial” domain, .CFD (Contracts for Difference) to the ShortDot registry. The company could not find a buyer for its remaining domain .SPREADBETTING (spreadbetting is a form of gambling used in sports and financial markets) and it just notified ICANN that it was terminating its registry agreement, thus leaving the domain market.
As for Donuts, it is easy to lose track of how many new gTLDs are controlled by the company, especially given the recent acquisition of Afilias’s domain assets, but it’s pushing on 300, Domain Incite writes.
