SWITCH, the registry of the Swiss ccTLD .CH, and OFCOM, Switzerland’s telecoms regulator, have agreed a contract extension, Domain Incite reports. Under the new agreement, SWITCH will manage the ccTLD .CH until December 2026.
SWITCH agreed to take significantly stronger security measures and speed up the implementation of technical security standards. In particular, SWITCH will provide financial incentives for registrars to adopt DNSSEC.
Moreover, the registry will also introduce measures to combat fraud at the point of registration. For example, according to SWITCH, “in the event of suspected fraudulent intent, newly registered domain names can be used only after an identity check.” Several ccTLD registries, such as Nominet that manages the British .UK, have already adopted such measures.
