CNH Industrial has dropped three of its dot brands

CNH Industrial has notified ICANN that it refuses to use previously delegated gTLDs .CASE, .CASEIH, and .NEWHOLLAND. The names of these TLDs are unlikely to sound familiar even to leading domain industry experts. And this is not at all surprising, since the registry has not started using them, limiting itself to registering mandatory names like nic. At the same time, CNH Industrial is a major international engineering company that produces industrial and agricultural equipment and machinery. Last year, its revenues totaled about $28 billion.

As established by the Domain Name Wire blog, the names CASE and NEWHOLLAND are the company's brands and still in active use. Therefore, there’s no question of objective reasons that could hinder the development of the dot brands. The company simply found no use for them – and, ended up wasting a lot of money on their registration. It is interesting, by the way, that CNH Industrial still has one more dot brand – .IVECO. In any case, there is no indication in ICANN’s records that CNH Industrial has terminated it. However, there is no sign that this gTLD has been used either. Thus, the total number of "discarded" dot brands has already reached 85, with 16 of them being dropped during the current year.
