ICANN returning to YouTube

ICANN announced it would once again stream its events on YouTube. It seemed like there was no longer a need for streams as all this year’s events were moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it turns out that YouTube streams were very popular. Most ICANN events take place via Zoom, and registration is required to join due to security concerns: many previous online events, including those held by ICANN, were marred by Zoom Bombers.

YouTube would be a better platform for those who need to listen in to sessions and not necessarily engage. According to Domain Incite, streams will resume during ICANN 69, the last meeting of this year scheduled for October 13-22. Unfortunately, only five “high-interest” sessions will be available due to limited technical capacities, and there won’t be any live interpretation for the non-English speakers.
