The Sedo domain trading platform summed up last week’s sales. Hop.in and 6115.com topped the list, as each of them sold for $50,000, according to The Domains. The Hop.in sale is especially noteworthy: it became the second largest transaction in India’s national domain .IN in the entire history of its existence. (We are only talking about transactions that are publicly available). There is currently no information available about the buyer and seller of Hop.in.
Poker.in remains the leader among Indian domains. Back in 2007, it sold for $60,000. India’s .IN was delegated and included in the DNS root zone back in 1989. However, due to extremely strict registration rules, only a very small number of names were registered in it for a long time: by 2004, there were only about 7,000 names in the domain zone. Subsequent liberalization of the rules led to a rapid increase in registrations. Currently, according to Domain Name Stat, .IN has more than 2.25 million registered domain names.
