XYZ.com has added a new domain to its gTLD portfolio. The registry announced the purchase of .QUEST. Earlier this dot brand was delegated by the Hong Kong-based multi-level marketing company, QNet. This makes .QUEST the 14th domain managed by XYZ.com and its second dot brand (the first one being .MONSTER).
Reporting the news, Domain Incite pointed out an interesting detail: the activity of QNet resembles Ponzi scheme, also known as a pyramid scheme, meaning it generates returns for older investors by acquiring new ones. QNet has been hit by serious legal challenges in various countries, and many of its officials – including those whose names were listed on the gTLD application – were arrested. Surprisingly, nobody at ICANN had questioned the company’s activity when considering its application.
However, QUEST itself has no links to any illegal activity whatsoever, simply because it was never used during all the years since its delegation, and not a single domain name has been registered there. XYZ.com did not reveal the future of its new gTLD or when it will be launched.
