HBO, which distributes the popular series True Detective, has acquired the rights to manage the TrueDetective.com domain name. The series, involving stars like Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell and Mahershala Ali, is very popular all over the world, and there is nothing surprising in the fact that someone decided to take advantage of its popularity. As Domain Name Wire reports, there was no detective story in this case: the situation was obvious from the start.
The domain registrant, who concealed its personal data, did not respond either to claims from HBO or to a notice from the National Arbitration Forum to consider the complaint. The domain has been parked from the moment of registration and contained sponsored links that mention HBO and the series True Detective. The HBO complaint was considered under the UDRP, and a National Arbitration Forum panelist called the case cybersquatting and decided that the management of TrueDetective.com would be transferred to HBO.
