Price increase for .UK domain names next year

Nominet, the registry that manages Great Britain ccTLD, .UK, announced that it would be raising prices for the registration and extension of domain names. The registration fee will go up from £3.75 to £3.90 starting January 13, 2020. Of course, the £0.15 increase can’t be called significant, but according to Domain Incite estimates, it will add almost £2 million to the registry’s top line, considering the number of names registered in .UK. Owners of a large number of domains will be affected the most.

A Nominet statement reads, “We appreciate that price increases are never popular, but even after this modest increase, .UK domains remain very competitively priced in the market and accessible to all.”

The registry also justified the price increase with the increased costs of running the registry business over the last three years. The last time Nominet increased fees was 2016. Before that, they hadn’t changed since 1999.
