Radix acquires .UNO

Radix has announced the acquisition of a new gTLD, .UNO, from Missouri-based Dot Latin LLC for an undisclosed amount, Domain Incite reports. It is the 11th gTLD managed by the company, which also runs the potentially promising .SITE, .TECH, .WEBSITE, and .ONLINE. Radix is proud that .UNO is its first three-letter domain name.

.UNO has no registration limits, although it is considered that it was originally targeted at Italian and Spanish speakers. “Uno” means “one” in these languages, and the domain was supposed to attract individuals and legal entities that wanted to be number one in their area. It is symbolic that .UNO was in the first group of the delegated gTLDs over five years ago. It is the 131st largest new gTLD, with about 16,000 domains in its zone file. The peak of registrations, about 22,000, was reached three years ago. On the one hand, this means a lot of renewals, but on the other hand, a low rate of growth.

Observers believe that in order to accelerate growth, Radix will use the “recipe” it has already tried with its other domains: significant discounts for initial registration with high prices for later renewal. As of today, domain names in .UNO can be purchased for $12–20. Radix also announced that it wanted to transfer the technical management to its longstanding partner, CentralNic. At present, .UNO is operated by Neustar. The transition is scheduled for the beginning of next year.
