Verisign has published its second-quarter results, Domain Name Wire reports. According to Verisign, as of June 30, 2019, the total number of domain names registered in the gTLDs managed by the company, namely .COM and .NET, reached 156.1 million. During the second quarter of the year, a total of 10.3 million new domain names were registered in these domains, which is more than in the same period last year (9.6 million). The net addition of new domain names in .COM and .NET was 1.34 million in the second quarter. These are quite positive results; the only drawback is that renewal rates are trending slightly down. In the first quarter of 2019 the renewal rate was 75 percent with 75.3 percent in 2018. It should be noted that this data only refers to the first quarter because the accurate number of renewals can be calculated only 45 days after the end of the quarter.
As for financial results in the second quarter, Verisign had $306 million in revenue and $148 million in net income.
