WIPO sees record number of cybersquatting cases

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) summed up last year’s results. According to the report published on its website, in 2018 WIPO examined 3,447 cases under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), which is 12 percent more than a year before (3,074 cases). Moreover, this is a record number for the 20 years this policy has existed.

It is noteworthy that the number of domains in the total UDRP caseload has not grown but noticeably decreased: 5,655 last year compared with 6,370 in 2017. However, these numbers do not show the entire picture. WIPO is a main but not the only organization that deals with domain abuse under UDRP.
