Domain growth pace continues to slow down

The CENTR association of European country code top-level domain name registries has published a report for 2018. According to the document, there were 348 mln domain names registered in the world as of the late 2018. Thus, the domain market growth was the lowest ever at only 3.7%. The slowdown has been witnessed for the past several years and it seems that it will not recover in the near future.

The .COM domain is the market's absolute leader with a 72% share. The domain showed a little growth, while other ‘old’ gTLDs displayed a declining number of registered names, probably due to the competition with new domains. As for national domains of European countries, their growth rate was the lowest ever: just 2%. Nevertheless, the CENTR statistics shows that 54% of all registrations in European counties are attributed to national European domains.
