According to Online Domain, Donuts, the operator of 238 new generic top-level domains, sold the domain name online.casino for $510,000. To date, this is the most expensive publicly-disclosed sale of a second-level domain name under a new gTLD.
The previous record belonged to the domain name vacation.rentals, which Vacarent LLC bought from the Donuts registry for $500,300. Another big deal in new domains run by Donuts was the sale of home.loans for $500,000.
“It’s another large sale to an end user and we’re excited to follow their site launch next year,” commented Matt Overman, SVP of Sales for Donuts. Overman also expressed hope that the domain online.casino would be no less successful than home.loans and vacation.rentals.
The company has not yet disclosed the name of the buyer of online.casino.
Domains containing the word “casino” have been hugely popular of late and sell at a rather high price. For instance, casino.online went for $201,250 in March 2017, and Sedo sold casino.ro for $220,000 in October 2018.
