Uniregistry to launch bulk trademark blocking service

According to Domain Incite, Uniregistry, the operator of 26 new TLDs, plans to launch a service for bulk blocking of domains whose names are identical to trademarks. Donuts already operates a similar service − the Domain Protected Marks List (DPML).

Uniregistry CEO Frank Schilling reported that a full-year subscription to all the 26 domains will cost no less than $200 – about $7.70 for each top-level domain from the company’s portfolio. This is nearly 1.5 times more than Donuts charges. Experts believe the price is justified since Uniregistry’s portfolio mostly contains popular and expensive domains with quite high domain name registration fees. For example, the .cars, .car and .auto domains charge a one-year registration fee of $3,000.

The UNI EP service will inform owners of protected trademarks about attempts to register domain names similar or identical to their brand names. Uniregistry’s current portfolio is made up of the following domains − .country, .audio, .car, .blackFriday, .auto, .cars, .christmas, .click, .diet, .flowers, .game, .gift, .guitars, .help, .hiphop, .hiv, .hosting, .juegos, .link, .lol, .mom, .photo, .pics, .property, .sexy and .tattoo.
