Three more new domain names terminated

Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) filed a termination notice for its new .DOHA top level domain, Domain Name Wire reports. This domain was supposed to be used for government entities in Qatar, but these plans were never put into practice.

The two other companies to ask ICANN to terminate their registry agreements are The Active Network and Zadco. The Active Network, part of Global Payments Inc., was managing the .ACTIVE top level domain, which never really caught on as it was only used for creating social media short links in the form of get.active/. Perhaps another company could put the domain to better use.

Zadco, the manufacturer of the famed Zippo lighters, also announced that it no longer wished to use the .zippo domain. Dot-brand domain names often get nixed – probably due in part to the fact that large businesses seem to be somewhat disappointed in new top-level domains.
