Brazil’s national domain reaches 4 million registrations

At the end of September, the number of domain names registered in the Brazilian national domain .BR exceeded four million for the first time and reached 4,000,260. The country’s network information center NIC.br issued a press release to mark the occasion, but on the next day the number of registrations dropped below four million. Then it increased again and reached 4,002,574 registrations on October 1. And then it again dropped and was 3,996,604 as of yesterday.

Thus, this number has been volatile for over a week but the milestone has been reached. It took the domain six years to add another million, Domain Incite reports. The publication also says that the Brazilian domain zone operates on a three-level structure, with dozens of second-level domain options available to registrants. The most popular is COM.BR with some 3.655 million domain names.
